The N Train (collaboration with Kim Meijer) Inside a virtual New York City subway car, the loud noise of the moving train is almost deafening, but as the visitor approaches each of the projected characters the noise subsides and the soft murmur of their thoughts fills the air. The installation space is a long dark corridor, with rear projections on its walls showing images of people traveling on NYC's N train. A sonar sensor, placed at one end, detects the visitor's position and sends this information to a microcontroller chip, which in turn converts it to binary code and passes it to the computer that triggers the audio associated with the closest character. |
