Blind Spot
(collaboration with Kim Meijer)
Blind Spot is a narrative eye-tracking device. Through a peephole on a black box, we see four characters that remain still, lost in their thoughts, waiting for the gaze of the user to awake them. They finally become alive when they're looked at, revealing the haunting stories their tired and anxious faces struggle to hide.
A miniaturized wide-angle lens, surrounded by infrared LEDs, captures the image of the user's eye, which is analyzed by the computer in order to detect the position of the pupil and calculate the direction of the gaze. A script then processes this information and activates the animation on the spot the user is looking at. The image projection inside the box is achieved through a combination of mirrors.
